Cheap holidays to Kos, Greece
The small Greek island of Kos is famed for its beaches, its bars and its what many call "the world's first hospital". A cheap holiday to Kos has something for everyone, from high culture to high entertainment. There are so many long golden beaches on Kos that you are spoiled for choice. One, called Therma Beach, even features a naturally-occuring spa heated by volcanic gases. For man-made aquatic entertainment, there is the Lido Waterpark, a superb network of slides and rivers for all ages to enjoy. If you would rather stay dry, you can take a boat tour around the island, or simply take in the many sights on land. One of the best is the traditional mountainside town of Zia, which offers spectacular sunset views; or the Kos Museum, a small but beautiful demonstration of ancient Greek sculptures and mosaics. Then there's the Hippocratic Museum, dedicated to the physician Hippocrates, the "father of Western medicine", and the Plane Tree of Hippocrates, under which he taught his students. Then there is Asklepion, the ruins of the first known "hospital" in the world. This collection of ancient Greek temples and medical centres is really quite beautiful. If you tire of culture-spotting, go people-watching in one of Kos' many bars, or try the fabulous local cuisine, harvested fresh from the farmlands.
