Cheap holidays to Rhodes, Greece
Sun worshippers, culture vultures and amateur historians should seriously consider cheap holidays to Rhodes. This small Greek island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Historically it was the site of the Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Although that giant bronze statue never saw 200 BCE, the island is still steeped in history. Take in Mandraki harbour, where the Colossus is believed to have stood, or visit the Archaeological Museum. The Old Town of Rhodes is a World Heritage Site, an ancient walled city featuring the renovated Palace of the Grand Masters, ruins, market stalls and some shops that still operate to this day. Beyond the city, there is the stunning Acropolis of Rhodes with the ruins of the local Temple of Apollo; or further afield there are the Castles of Monolithos and Kritinia with stunning coastal views. Of course being a Greek island, if you want to take a break from history lessons, there are plenty of activities. Relax on golden beaches, dine out on local delicacies in traditional Greek tavernas, or go shopping. There is even a water park for the children, and young-at-heart. This island is perfect for those who want a more laid-back experience. For cheap holidays to Rhodes, have a look at the deals at Fleetway Travel.
