Lake Como is situated in Lombardy in the far north of Italy, close to the border with Switzerland. Italy’s third largest lake and one of the deepest lakes in Europe, Lake Como is famous for its beautiful lakeside villas and gardens, great watersports, friendly people, and good cuisine, making the perfect destination for your 2008 holidays.

Holidays to Lake Como offer a wide range of attractions and activities for all the family. If you like watersports you could enjoy windsurfing or sailing on the Lake, but if you prefer dry land you’ll find golf courses and tennis courts in abundance around Lake Como. Adventure sports enthusiasts might like to try kitesurfing, and you’re only a two hour drive from skiing in the Alps or Dolomites, so there is no shortage of things to do.

The Sacred Mountain (Sacro Monte) of Ossuccio lies on a wooded slope on the western edge of Como Lake, and has a Monastery and fifteen Baroque chapels built between 1635 and 1710. Villas near Bellagio include the neo-classical Villa Melzi, with its beautiful English and Japanese style gardens, and Villa Serbelloni, set in a stunning fifty acre park. Villa Del Balbianello, near Lenno, has beautiful gardens and a landing stage on the Lake. The eighteenth century Villa Carlota in Tremezzo is set in classical Italian gardens with rhododendrons and azaleas, and has a museum dedicated to neoclassical art with works by prominent artists and sculptors including Canova, Appiani, and Hayez. The Villa d’Este at Cernobbio was built in 1568 and is now a famous luxury hotel attracting celebrities and tourists from all over the world.
