Orlando is the major city of the nicknamed "Sunshine State" Florida.

The crowds of visitors come here for Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and Wet n' Wild. These attractions helped make Orlando the third most visited American city among travellers in 2007.

Orlando has also been called Hollywood East because of numerous cinematic enterprises in the area. The Walt Disney World Resort is located a few miles out from Orlando but this self-sufficient entertainment giant sums up exactly what Orlando holidays are all about. Children will be thrilled to meet the characters they recognise from Disney cartoons, such as Mickey and Minnie mouse and Pluto the dog.

Sea World is a great place to go for some aquatic entertainment, where you can see the famous killer whale called Shamu, meet a few dolphins and throw fish for the sealions.

When visiting Orlando you might not find enough time to visit all the attractions and will probably have to come back! The region is a top destination for golf lovers of all abilities and home to 8 major shopping malls offering everything from designer shopping to delicious international cuisine. Of course you will find countless excellent restaurants serving the typical American portions as well. The hip-hop music scene, metal scene, rock music scene, reggae ton and Latino scene are all active within the city, which is largely home to the Florida Break Beat movement.

The area is known of its generally warm and humid subtropical climate. There are two major seasons each year. One of those seasons is hot and rainy, from June until September (roughly coinciding with the Atlantic hurricane season) and the other is the dry season from October to May that brings more moderate temperatures and less frequent rainfall.
