Spend the day at your leisure, discover the many quaint shops and cafés in the city, or visit some of the many museums, and then great yourself ready for a truly amazing evening experience. You’ll board the Flybussen coach for Tromsø Airport, where we will be taking to the skies with Wideroe Airliens to locate the Northern Lights. The flight is scheduled to take an hour (22:00-23:00) and will reach the perfect altitudes to spot this spectacular celestial phenomenon. The plane seats 38 in total in rows of two on each side, giving everyone great views of the night sky.

19.02.2018      Tromsø Villmarkssenter Aurora Husky Evening Visit

Another day where you’ll have plenty of free time before your hunt for the Northern Lights resumes. We recommend visiting the Polar Museum located by the harbour, where you can learn more about this wonderful part of the world and the famous explorers that have stayed here, while art lovers can visit the Northern Norway Art Museum.

When darkness descends around the city, you’ll be leaving the streetlights and lit up houses behind and head to the Tromsø Wilderness Centre, where husky dogs and puppies are waiting for you. The camp is located on the Kvaløya Island, which is approximately 30 minutes away from Tromsø. Accompanied by a local English-speaking guide, you’ll be waiting for the Northern Lights to appear on the night sky, while sampling some delicious bacalao (stock fish prepared in tomato sauce), served around an open fire in a traditional Lavvu (Sami tent).

Tromsø, Norway

Settled on a small island surrounded by wild fjords and mountains, which have been carved out by the winds and the snow over millions of years, Tromsø, one of the largest cities in the Arctic Circle, is like no other place on this earth.

Stroll through the cosy little park of Kongeparken, past the old cathedral and down to the harbour-front. The city was once used as a base by explorers like Roald Amundsen and Fritjof Nansen. Visit the Polar Museum for the fascinating history behind their expeditions and how Tromsø has been an important Arctic settlement for centuries. See the northernmost botanical gardens in the world or spend a few hours in the Northern Norway Art Museum for artistic impressions and interpretations of the wild landscape that cradles the city.

If you want to experience the Arctic for yourself, then start by taking the cable car known as Fjellheisen to the top of Mount Storsteinen. Here you can gaze across the numerous white peaks and fjords that surround the city, and of course, from this viewing platform you also get the perfect panoramic view of the city below. On your descent from the mountain, visit the modernist Arctic Cathedral, before seeking out a boat tour that will take you beyond the city and out onto the deep blue sea. Spot a humpback whale or any of the other local marine animals that thrive here and witness nature at its most serene.
