Known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, Sri Lanka is a rare gem sparkling in the tropical sun, which has enthralled visitors for centuries. Discover for yourself why the famous 13th-century explorer Marco Polo called this ‘the finest island of its size in all the world’ and experience why, 800 years later, it’s still a unique region of serene beaches, vast tea plantations, exotic animals and stunning natural sights.
Sri Lanka is home to a plethora of places to visit. From the ancient Buddhist shrines and palaces of Kataragama and Sigiriya, to the Dutch colonial ramparts of Galle Fort, as well as the lush tea plantations and magnificent national parks, this is an island that offers unique experiences around every corner. Herds of elephants pace through the sunburnt greenery of the Udawalawe National Park, and guided tours will take you up close to these majestic, but sadly endangered creatures. Sri Lanka is home to a great variety of wildlife and you can catch a glimpse of crocodile basking on the muddy banks of a river in Udawalawe, flocks of flamingos in Bundala National Park, and wild leopards, monkeys and exotic birds in Yala National Park.
“The Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort - Great little stop off”
Reviewed 24 October 2016“My family and I stopped here for 4 days, we visited the national reserve which is a 10 minutes jeep ride away. The staff are friendly and always have a smile on their face. The hotel is really clean, in fact spotless. Its great that you can be in the national park in the morning watching all these beautiful animal such as elephants, dear, jackels and the various birds. Then you can be by the pool in the afternoon watching wildlife around the hotel. There are monkeys, chipmuncks and lizards which is an extra bouns. The rooms are great, they are cleaned everyday or on request. The food is great, especially the omelettes in the morning. We particularly enjoyed drinks on the veranda in the early evening.”
“Hotel Chandrika - Great experience!”
Reviewed 01 July 2016“The Hotel Chandrilka is a lovely boutique-resort-style hotel that met our needs perfectly as a base for our full day Yala safaris. The hospitality of the staff was second to none, and our deluxe room was spacious and attractively appointed. We were initially concerned that the hotel was a bit far from the park entrance, but the 25-minute drive was actually quite pleasant. We booked the 1/2 board package and enjoyed the dining experience, which included a bountiful international buffet on busy evenings and a four-course meal when the dining room was less full. The buffet breakfast was also bountiful and packed breakfasts were always ready before our 5:30 am departure on our safari mornings.”
