Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon, is situated where the River Tagus meets the Atlantic Ocean, where over twenty centuries of history meets modern twenty-first century life. Built on seven hills, the city has many vantage points from which the Portugese explorers of the 16th century would have been waved off, on their voyages of discovery to Africa, the Americas, and the Far East.

Today, it's the quaint old-world charm of the little squares with their unique shops, bustling cafes, and attractive waterfronts that draws many visitors to Lisbon. Hotel Metropole Lisbon is another boutique hotel, situated on Lisbon's main square facing the castle of St George. The hotel was recently renovated, furnished in 1920s style, but has modern fittings and facilities. The rooms facing the Rossio district overlook the National Theatre, the old Alfama district, and the Castle of St George.

The Lapa Palace, Lisbon, is a truly luxurious hotel, perched on a hilltop above the city.
