Short Breaks to Pisa

Pisa

Pisa City Break Holidays

Italy is a wonderful destination for romantic European city breaks. You can choose to visit many of the larger cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Venice, and Palermo in Sicily, for an exciting short break but also on offer are city breaks to the smaller cities of Pisa and Florence. Visiting Pisa is a delight - this is a tiny city with only 85,000 people. Quite a difference from Milan, with its bustling population 100 times this size. For a romantic and quiet break in a city in Europe, Pisa is a perfect choice.

The Leaning Tower, Pisa

Because it is so small, Pisa is the perfect destination for a short break to soak up the real spirit of Italy. Pisa has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age, but it rose in importance during the early middle ages because of the powerful Medici family, who were a driving force in the development of Pisa between 1400 and 1700. The famous Leaning Tower of Pisa is the city's most well-known landmark, and is the bell tower of the cathedral of the city. Work to build the tower of Pisa started in 1179 and it began to lean during construction.

Pisa’s Other Attractions

As well as seeing the leaning tower and the cathedral, short breaks are also ideal for taking in some of the other historical landmarks in Pisa, such as the Piazza dei Cavalieri, one of Pisa's most impressive piazzas. Also fascinating is the Camposanto, a vast walled ancient graveyard just north of the Duomo. The main building is reputed to house holy soil brought to Pisa in 1278 from the place of the crucifixion. And, after all the cultural discovery, you can relax in the Orto Botanico di Pisa (the botanical gardens) and enjoy the pleasant and balmy weather that this part of Italy is famous for. There is so much to enjoy, you'll want to return - fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to book a last minute city break to Pisa, just explore our website to book online in seconds.
