About the 5* Boutique Hotel - Relais & Châteaux Le Domaine D'Auriac, Carcassone
Perched on a rocky spur on the right bank of the River Aude stands the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne, timeless and magnificent.
The freestone gateways, castle and Basilica of Saint-Nazaire, restored in the 19th century are veritable marvels. Since the 14th century, the "Pont Vieux" (Old Bridge) has led to the lower town called the "Bastide Saint-Louis".
Here again is a mixture of all shapes and kinds of age-old houses, private mansions, churches and cathedrals in a mix of shapes forming an incomparable ensemble.
Near the city of Carcassonne and the canal du Midi, both listed as Unesco World Heritage sites, the Domaine d'Auriac is built on the ancient settlement of Carsac, where the history of Carcassonne began. Today, calm and comfort reign supreme here. Enjoy strolls around the bucolic park, accompanied by singing birds, and savour the Mediterranean aromas. Play a round on the 18-hole golf course or relax in the sumptuous swimming pool. And if the medieval town of Carcassonne does not quench your thirst for history, then it's worth a visit to Rennes-le-Château, made famous by the legendary abbot Sauniére and a treasure that is still shrouded in mystery.

France

Located just over the English Channel and to the west of Europe France is a country that is very rich in culture, history and cuisine. Just a short distance from the UK, the main attraction of France is Paris which is known for being one of the most romantic cities in the world. Flights from London airports take less than an hour and Eurostar city breaks whisk you from London to Paris in well under three hours. It's a great pleasure to stroll around the streets, visiting famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, taking time every now and then to rest and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine at a pavement café. Paris attractions are plentiful, and it's possible to come back year. The French take the food seriously and you may find your waistband expanding as you sample the fantastic seafood and pasta. The Wine is another big attraction with vineyards as up and coming attraction to tourists. City breaks in Paris are popular around Christmas when the area in front of the Hotel de Ville is converted into a giant skating rink, and Christmas markets fill the squares. It's possible to take holidays in France all year round and taking breaks throughout the year to see the city in the changing seasons can be a memorable experience.
