"Thank you Fleetway for introducing us to the North of Portugal, an area we had not thought of visiting until we saw your offer. We stayed at the Casa de Calcada in Amarante and it was one of the best hotels we've stayed in. The staff were faultless and it was ideally situated. We were given a Fiat500 rental car which was great and the hotel recommended three great days out to the Duoro wine growing valley, the Mateus palace and Guimarae!"
"What a find!"

"Spent a wonderful 4 nights here - you will not be disappointed. Top tip do not wait until your last night to try the Restaurant as it is beyond doubt the best dining experience you will have and great value. As per other reviews, the comfort, style and setting make for a very decadent stay - enjoy!"

"Stayed at this lovely hotel for 4 nights on a Fleetway deal! Such a beautiful place! Loved the area too! The breakfast was plentiful and always fresh! We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening as we were not overly impressed with the menu for the price! If I had to gripe it would be that we paid for an upgrade and it seems many people are given these free of charge! However our room was lovely, and we wouldn't hesitate in recommended this hotel!"

About the 5* Casa da Calçada Relais & Chateaux
The boutique hotel is in the town of Amarante, between Porto (Portugal's second city) and the remote Douro Valley, where port wine is produced. Built in the 16th century, the former manor house has a Michelin-starred restaurant, a bar overlooking the hotel vineyards and two swimming pools with views of the River Tamega. There's also free Wi-Fi. The hotel holds a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. In Northern Portugal, a short drive inland from Porto, straddling the banks of a gentle river, lies the elegant village of Amarante, which has been described as one of the most beautiful places on earth. With verdant trees drooping into the river and elegant, ancient buildings, Amarante could be the setting for a fairy tale. In its centre, overlooking the Tamega River, the ancient bridge and the Saint Gonçalo Church and Convent, you'll find a grand and imposing 19th century palace.
You'll be tempted to simply enjoy every possible moment right at the hotel, but it is also perfectly located to explore the surrounding attractions. Between 2 important wine regions, you could not be better placed for serious wine tourism. To the northwest are the historic towns of Guimarães and Braga, Porto is a half hour west and the attractions of the Douro region start a few minutes south. The Casa da Calçada is the ideal choice for a romantic getaway or as an indulgent base from which to explore the region.
PortoYou can hire a bike to explore Amarante and the surrounding gardens and farm. Wander the cobbled streets of Porto, the centre of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and don't miss a trip to the Alto Douro wine region, where grapes are still crushed by foot. There are plenty of inexpensive dining options in Porto, from traditional cafes to little seafood restaurants with wood-fired ovens, used to cook the city's signature dish, bacalhau.
Porto, the capital of the north of Portugal, also Portugal's second largest city. The source of Portugal's name and one of its most famous exports, Port. Located on the estuary of the Douro River, this city boast lively locals, great character and fine cuisine! Ribeira is the cities cultural centre, it really is steeped in history with plenty to do.
Stroll around the narrow, winding streets stumbling across fabulous boutiques and amazing restaurants. Ribeiro is actually now a UNESCO protected area! Be sure to visit the Old Stock Exchange Palace, the cities Cathedral and many churches as well as be wined and dined at the Old Waterfront. Make sure you get in a tour of one of the many Port factories, don't forget the tasting sessions too! Sandemans and Taylors are two of the best. The area is known as the green coast. Offering stunning beaches and charming resorts all a lot less busy than those of the Algarve! Espinho is a real holiday hotspot, an old fishing town, now offering loads of entertainment, a spectacular beach strip and even a casino. Vila do Conde is well worth a visit, a charming resort known for its tasty chocolate and pastries. For nightlife be sure to check out Povoa de Varzim, this vibrant area has a real cosmopolitan feel just waiting to be enjoyed. Ofir is one of the most beautiful resorts of the region, for windsurfers the beach here has got to be had, and neighbouring Esposendre offers a wilderness just waiting to be explored!
