4* Hilton Tobago

Tobago Plantations Limited is the owner and developer of a 750 acre estate at Lowlands, Tobago which, when completed, will include the Hilton Tobago, another quality hotel chain, a small spa hotel, an international standard, 27 hole golf course, a commercial centre, private villas and condos and Tobago’s first yachting marina.

The complex already has operational the Hilton Tobago hotel, a traditional colonial style building on a dramatic outcrop of coral looking south and east to the Atlantic and Scarborough, the capital town of the island. The “W” shaped hotel mimics the wings of the Frigate Bird that flies over this area of coastline, and the design allows each of the 200 hotel rooms to enjoy a view of the sea.

The foyer’s south wall is made of custom designed glass and affords a commanding view of the surf off Petit Trou Beach. The beautiful pool and surrounding areas are dug right into the coral outcrop. The hotel offers fine dining, a family restaurant, as well as casual poolside eating. Amenities include a gym, therapy rooms, a hair salon and a selection of small shops.

Along with the hotel, the testing par-72 championship 27 hole golf course designed by Bob Hunt and Marcus Blackburn of the Britain and Ireland PGA is open to players from around the world, and its unique setting on the fringes of the mangrove surrounding Petit Trou Lagoon make it a total contrast to most urban courses. Phase One of the villa development has built the first condo village and many private villas along the southern reaches of the golf course, closest to the sea.

The condo village comprises 36 units that house two apartments each. The style is again colonial and the bold tropical colours selected for the condos include sky blue, deep pink, mango and jade green trimmed with traditional white “gingerbread” roof fascia boards. The village shares three separate swimming pools.
