Bastia, known as the gateway to Corsica in the past was the old capital of the island found to the north-east of Corsica, in a fine location with the hills and Cap Corse behind the town. Today is a small resort town of approximately 40,000 inhabitants. The city is the most important port of the island. Besides a busy harbor, Bastia is renowned for its wine.
The dynamism of the city meets itself in the heart of the picturesque market which welcomes a joyful crowd and lovers of the best products of the soil. Bastia is a city of colors and flavors. Worthed to discover, by walking, the districts of the citadel which lives at the rate of its donjon and of its buildings in watchtower on the Med, the alleys ofi "U Portu Vecchju", alleys paved around the market; and Port-Toga, stopping place of the sailors. By going out of the port, the place Saint Nicolas, shaded by plane trees and by palm trees, offers itself towards the guest. Here, the air always produces the true charm of the countries of the South.
Bastia's situation favors the activities of open air. The sea, everywhere present, becomes a place of exploits. Dominating the city, the campaign where get involved the exhalations of undergrowth and orderly gardens asks only to surprise the walkers in feet or in cycle.
Bastia enjoys a pleasant climate throughout whole year. Mild winters with the temperature between 9°C and 13°C. July and August are the warmest months with the avarage temperature of 24°C.
