City Breaks in Dublin

Short Breaks to Dublin

Dublin

Take a break: Dublin

European city breaks are more popular than ever but when planning a short break it's easy to overlook a fabulous foreign city right on the doorstep of the UK - Dublin. There are regular flights from Liverpool, Leeds, and Bradford, and the London airports take you over to the 'Emerald Isle' in just over an hour. It's possible to book cheap flights well in advance finding hotels in Dublin that offer a cheaper last minute city break price for your stay. Dublin hotels offer accommodation to suit all tastes, either near the city centre or in the quieter suburbs. For short breaks, choose one in a central location such as the famous O’Connell Street.

A Drink in Dublin!

During your Dublin short break, you must have at least one pint of Guinness - which always taste better in Ireland than anywhere else. For real aficionados there's the Guinness Storehouse, in the heart of St James's Gate Brewery, a fantastic place to spend a wet afternoon. The museum is well designed with exhibits that hold your interest, and is housed in the original Storehouse buildings with a new centrepiece building that's shaped like a pint of Guinness. When you get to the top - the head of the pint - you find yourself in a circular restaurant that overlooks the city - and every visitor over 18 is given a free pint!

Tourist Attractions in Dublin

There are also plenty of other things to do in Dublin - why not start with a trip on one of the open-topped city buses? This is a good idea for a sunny afternoon and a great way to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of this great city. Famous Dublin attractions also include Dublin Castle, the National Gallery of Ireland, and the Dublin Writer's Museum, which has a recording of James Joyce reading from one of his books.

Although Dublin is a major cultural centre in Ireland, and popular for city breaks in general, it also has a very vibrant nightlife with lots of restaurants, cafes, bars, and clubs, so it's great for pre-wedding parties. A Dublin hen night or Dublin stag night is a popular choice for couples from the UK - but make sure you leave for home a few days before the wedding to give yourself time to recover!
