The old part of the city has a vast number of historical churches, palaces, castles, synagogues, towers, and columns, including the ancient Serpentine Column, which dates back to 479 BC. Not to be missed is the Blue Mosque, one of the most important landmarks of the city, founded by Sultan Ahmet I in 1609.
