City Breaks to Vilnius

The enchanting capital of Lithuania and the centre of Europe is Vilnius. This picturesque city was first founded in 1323. When Lithuania became independent in 1990 this beautiful city began a renovation scheme and restored the old quarter to its former beauty. It was out with the old and in with the new, restaurants, bars, hotels and museums replaced the dank communist views of this forgotten city. Don’t forget to buy you authentic amber – only found on the Baltic coast. Now a bustling city break destination with plenty to see and do.

Begin you tour of Vilnius at the town hall. Strolls down Pilies Street will lead you to the Royal Palace, this gourgous residence has been brought back to life and is now a hotspot of flashing cameras. Dotted all over the city are old palaces, unique in their own way and the old homes of Lithuania’s Lords and Ladies. The endless churches, shops, stylish boutiques and eateries line the cobbled streets, sure to keep you entertained. This Baroque city boasts one of the biggest old quarters of all the European cities. With so many sights it’s easy to see why a cheap holiday to Vilnius is needed and the main sites are all within a stones throw of each other and can all be visited on foot! The Jonas Medes visual arts centre is one of the best museums, and the city is also awaiting the arrival of the Guggenheim-Hermitage museum to! Great places to unwind are just outside the city, Verkiai and Pavilniai are two of the best parks, horse riding, bicycles and music festivals are the norm! The former Lithuanian capital of the middle ages and the European Park, both just a few miles outside the city are not to be missed.
