September 2011 - staying at KOMPAS HOTEL

Easyjet flights in both directions efficient and punctual. Kompass Hotel in the Lapad district of Dubrovnik is in an ideal situation. Right by the sea with no passing traffic. The food is wholesome and plentiful and being a buffet suits my requirements. The rooms are comfortable and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. There is a pool at the hotel and the beach is two minutes distant - bearing in mind that it is a shingle beach. There are pleasant walks locally and the bus to Dubrovnik Old City is a couple of minutes from the hotel. The buses run late into the night so it is possible to dine in the old city or attend many of the concerts on offer and get back to your hotel with ease. The arrangements made with Fleetway were first class and the price a bargain!

October 2011 - staying at ARISTON HOTEL

Excellant hotel, staff were attentive & helpfull. Room clean tidy & spacious with fantastic sea view. Pools & sea accessable. Convenient busses to town every 10minutes which took about 15 minutes.
The stay was very enjoyable, everything as hoped for.

August 2011 - staying at ADRIA

An important thing to note about this hotel is how far the transfer is from the airport,we were let down by our transfer company and had to make our own way to the hotel, which is on the island of Korcula reached by ferry. It took 7 hours and cost about 170 pounds to get there. The organised transfer on the way back took about 5 hours. If you are organising transfer as part of a package make sure they have the correct hotel and not the hotel Adria in Dubrovnik. The location of the hotel is stunning if remote, it is on a lagoon around the headland from the town of Vela Luka which is an hours walk away but there is a water taxi about half way round. a boat also goes from the hotel to the town 6 times a day and is very cheap. the town is lovely with plenty of bars and good restaurants and fairly cheap. there are very few english people in this resort or the hotel. it is not really possible to walk back from the town at night as the path is really rough and unlit. The main town on the island is Korcula town where the ferry docks and is well worth a visit and takes about an hour to reach on the bus from Vela Luka. It was built by the Venetians and is beautiful.
the hotel is ok for a 3 star, very clean and a good pool area with great views from the terrace, although some of the sunbeds are broken. you need to be at the pool very early to get a sunbed. the food is good, a wide variety every day and it tastes better than it looks! the dining room is a bit like a factory canteen. the other guests were mostly east european, the manners of some of them left a lot to be desired as they dont believe in queuing and were quite ignorant which starts to grate after 2 weeks! most of the staff in the hotel are not friendly or helpful at all and the bar closes at 11 oclock which is ridiculously early when you are on holiday. the rooms were very clean with good bathrooms and were cleaned every day. the entertainment in the hotel was monotonous with same guitarist singing the same songs about 5 times in 2 weeks, i could have done a duet with him by the end. overall we enjoyed the location and tranquility of the hotel with lovely walks around the coast, stunning views and starlit skies at night. if you want a holiday off the beaten track and dont mind less than 5 star luxury then this may be for you.
