Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the seventh biggest city in the world. Specialities you might like to try include mezze (starter dishes similar to Spanish tapas), koshary (sometimes spelt koshari - a bowl of rice, noodles, lentils, and fried onion in tomato sauce), baba ghanoush (smoked aubergine), hummus (chickpea paste) and fuul (mashed fava beans). If you still have room for an Egyptian dessert after all that you might like to try some om ali (traditional rice pudding) or honeyed pastries, perhaps with a mint tea or Arabic coffee, and a sheesha (shisha) pipe to follow!
