City breaks to Lyon
Lyon is located in the East of France. Lyon is in fact the countries third largest city. It serves as the capital for the Rhone-Alpes region. This major business city is ideally located between Paris and Marseille. Lyon also has a great reputation amongst the world of cinema! Lyon is well known for its fine restaurants and is also the headquarters for Interpol and Euronews. Holidays in Lyon enjoy a mix of temperate and Mediterranean climates, Lyon has hot summers and very mild winters.
This old Roman city is home to fabulous churches that are well worth a visit like the Notre-Dame de Fourviere Basilica and the Saint-Jean Cathedral. Make sure you visit the old Roman Theatre on the Fourviere too for a great insight into this historical city. The Parc de la Tete d’Or and the Ferris wheel at Bellecour are also great days out whilst on holiday in Lyon!
If visiting Lyon during December be sure to take in The Festival of lights. This celebration for the Virgin Mary, who saved the city from a deadly plague in the Middle Ages is a spectacular event of endless candles and light shows! The African Museum of Lyon is also a great day out whilst on holiday in Lyon. Spend your days wandering around the Medieval old town, endless cobbled streets of stunning churches, shops and restaurants. Lyon is known as the Gastronomy capital! Enjoy heavy meat dishes made with Beaujolais wine. Coq au vin is world renowned. Salade Lyonnaise is also a must have!
