August 2010 - staying at DORETA BEACH
The Doreta Beach Resort was pleasant enough, however it was certainly not a 5* hotel. We were told that it was refurbished and now had a rating of 5*. Only parts of the hotel had been refurbished. The airconditioning was not throughout the hotel as was also stated. The reception, bar and dining room were sweltering and made it very uncomfortable in 40' heat. Food was OK but certainly could have been more varied, very samey every day. The children had a lovely time and made lots of friends. I would also like to see the edges of the pool made much cleaner (where the water overflowed into the drain), there were lots of black goo and this made me uncomfortable and slightly worried! Overall, a nice holiday but we wouldn't want to return. ThanksAugust 2010 - staying at MARIETTA STUDIOS
Pastida is a lovely traditional greek town.Would recommend for a relaxing holiday.Marietta hotel is very friendly with a good size pool. The studio we stayed in was very basic,it was ok for us as we were out all day.The only fault with it was we were self catering but didnt cook as it would have been too awkward with 1 frying pan and one rather large one,you only had a hotplate to do this on so i couldnt be bothered with the hastle.I would recommend you go to Nostimoules a lovely greek restaurant in the square. Savvos is so friendly and really looks after you.August 2010 - staying at ELECTRA PALACE
Having been told 2 days before we were due to go to the blue bay that they had over booked we were sent to the Electra Palace 20 mins away, how glad we were when we got there. We could still use the water park, if you could call it that, five sldes of which one wasnt working all week and flat cokes and orange juice. Walking through the hotel we were not impressed, small pool with sun beds squashed together giving you hardly any room to breath let alone anything else. Thank you for over booking us and the upgrade !August 2010 - staying at SIVILA HOTEL
The Hotel was a disappointment, the bedrooms are quiet small and basic, they only change sheets and towels twice a week and you have to pay extra for air conditioning.Fortunately the staff was friendly and helpful, the food was good and the hotel is close to the beach and not far from Afandou town centre.
I won’t recommend this place for people who like to relax at the swimming pool or enjoy hotel entertainments, there isn’t any.
August 2010 - staying at CAPSIS HOTEL
We returned today from what was described as luxurious 5 star hotel, this was not the hotel we stayed in. there is only 1 restaurant not the 3 it states, it was liking eating in a zoo. The pool snacks are only on from 1600 to 1800 and are limited to a scoop of ice cream, cheese and a bread roll, other food available but at a price. there is only 1 bar open all day which you were limited to what you could drink before you where charged. The beach is close but its not clean, id reccomend the beach in rhodes town. There is no daily activities and the evening entertainment is limited even poor would fit the description. The hotel is close to Rhodes town and to the airport but id of rather of gone self catering and booked in Rhodes town as we ate out as the food was repetative, cold or been handled by kids. not what I expected from a 5 star all inclusive holiday, we also only had 6 nights in the hotel room as the flight timings and booking out times conflicted. we are completley disappointed.August 2010 - staying at DORETA BEACH
Our first All Inclusive holiday was an experience, both good and bad. The Doreta Beach Hotel is a large complex and so you will not experience the personal touch as in high season it is very busy. Meal times are similar to a school dinner in atmosphere but the food itself can't be faulted , it was always freshly cooked and a varied choice. The pools and beach area are kept immaculate throughout but be prepared to lay your towel out at 06:30 if you want a lilo and a good spot. The hotel is going through a refurbishment so make sure you get a newer room as the air con is very poor in the older rooms. All in all we enjoyed our stay and if you want a clean no frills approach to your stay you won't be dissapointed, just be prepared to rub shoulders with everyone during high season.July 2010 - staying at 5*DORETA BEACH RESORT
Great holiday and great value for money. We were worried about some of the reports we had read about the hotel on some review sites but we were impressed. Luckily we had booked a Superior Room - which basically means you have a renovated room with a jacuzzi bath and a fridge. Our room was large and had a huge king sized comfortable bed together with 2 singles for the kids and wasn’t cramped at all. Floors 1&2 are yet to be refurbished and were shabby. Floors 3&4 have been done with marble floors and clean, spacious and comfortable rooms. The pool area is FANTASTIC. Really large. Downside if you're not much of a swimmer is there’s not really a shallow end. We found it ideal though as our kids love jumping and diving in so it was safe. There’s a smashing kids pool too for little’uns. The Animation team work really hard throughout the day – and we loved the club dance. The kids loved the daily activities of Football, tennis, volleyball, darts and water polo and didn’t ever want to leave the hotel. Totally safe environment too for kids day and night to roam unsupervised. Sunbeds were a bit of a problem if you wanted one at poolside – you needed to stake your claim by 6am or you’d lose out! Although there are lovely large gardens or on the beach if you didn’t mind.
Large clean restaurant – sometimes did need to queue at busy times but not for long usually. Food was as you’d expect really – something for everyone and we found something every night – gorgeous sweets – great breakfasts, lunch – dinner sometimes was a little strange but we never went hungry and never needed to eat outside the hotel. Snacks – excellent – ran all day and if you didn’t make it for breakfast you could still get cooked breakfast at 10.30 from the snack bar. Cheese pie – mmmm.
Drinks – excellent – great choice of drinks, cocktails, local spirits including own brand Tia Maria and Malibu – downside was the queues at the bar – but once they started the queuing system it wasn’t so bad. Suggestion to the hotel would maybe be to have a soft drink & water pump actually at the bar – as well as at the snack bar. Everning Entertainment was mixed – the Animation Team tried their best but it wasn’t that great, although we have been spoilt in previous years by superb entertainment. One thing – we’d have liked the evening entertainment to be outside as the large room inside was stifling and unbearable to sit for the entire evening. The evening bar staff were miserable and could have some with an injection of personality and both the inside and outside bars could have done with more staff – however we understand none of the staff had been paid since May and lots had left so they were enormously understaffed ... not an excuse I know but may explain ....?
The hotel is close to the airport – 15 mins drive away, so cheap in a taxi – you do get some aircraft noise during the day – we didn’t notice anything of a night and the planes didn’t bother us in the day – kids loved them!
Theologos/Tholos as a resort is very quiet with only a handful of supermarkets, couple of bars and car hire places – the town itself is about 25-30 mins walk away – small picturesque, lovely town (nothing there though).
Beach outside the hotel – WITH hotel sunbeds is sand and pebbles – beach shoes are a must but we found the beach clean, water fab and clean with watersports (not included/payable locally) right next to the hotel. Lovely breeze all day which was fantastic as we went to visit Lindos & Pefkos and there wasn’t a breath of air over that side of the island, it was SO hot which would have been unbearable for 2 weeks.
We hired a car and went over to Lindos, Pefkos, Lardos, Tsambiki Beach (fabulous!) and got the bus a couple of times into Rhodes Town – really great city, fantastic shops and beautifully picturesque old town - well worth a trip. Bus was good value also –2.60 Euro each.
After reading all the bad reviews we felt we should write one, The hotel had its faults, yes, and the remaining floors need renovation and Tholos is in need of a cash boost – but it was nowhere near as bad as we were lead to believe. If we’d have paid £5K for the holiday, yes we’d have been disappointed – but we didn’t, we got great value for money – we had a lovely room, the hotel was clean and most of the staff friendly and helpful, food and drink was good. Beach on the doorstep. ... what else do you need? My advice, make sure you book a superior room, don’t expect too much (and don’t pay too much attention to the moaners on the review sites!) and you’ll have a great time.
Thoroughly recommend Fleetway Travel and will definitely book with them again – service from booking to receiving tickets etc was excellent and the price we paid was superb – thank you :o) If we were struggling for cash we’d definitely go to Doreta beach again as you won’t find anywhere as good for the price we paid (£1,500) in the Greek Islands. If you want more you need to pay more!
