Skiathos, Greece
Skiathos is one of the most popular Greek islands and lies in the Sporades group of islands in the Aegean Sea, just north of Athens. Holidays to Skiathos offer peaceful, sandy beaches, quiet walks through pine forests and olive groves, and year-round good weather.
This forested island, just sixteen km long, has one main road but over seventy beaches. One of the most famous is the nudist beach at Banana Beach Skiathos (sometimes spelt Bananna). Other beaches include Ammos, Agia Eleni, Kolios, Kanapitsa, and Lalaria.
Tourist attractions on Skiathos include the ruined town of Kastro, the bay at Koukounaries, the Monastery of Evangelistrias, and the pretty whitewashed houses of Skiathos town. There are also boat trips to the nearby islands of Skopelos and Alonnisos on 'flying dolphins' (hydrofoils). Alonnisos is a National Marine Park, and many visitors choose to stay in the apartments or hotel rooms of the Villa Galini. Skiathos is a beautiful island and has all the tourist facilities needed for starting an island-hopping tour, or indeed for staying put and enjoying the beaches and crystal-clear waters that lap gently at its shores.
Ferries link the island with Volos, Thessaloniki, and Agios Konstantinos, and there are regular flights to Athens, Rhodes, Mykonos, and Santorini. You can get a scheduled flight to Skiathos from Athens or there are cheap charter flights from UK airports.

Skiathos town is the most popular place to stay and most hotels range from 2 to 4 stars. However there are also plenty of hotels in Koukounaries, Kanapitsa, and Platanias, and the island now has several 5 star hotels.
Skiathos Nightlife
The nightlife in Skiathos town is based around Papadiamanti, Polytechniou, and Evangelistra streets, and the charming little port. There is an open air cinema on Papadiamanti Street where bars often put cushions out for guests to sit on. The nightlife on the rest of the island is quiet and based around the tavernas and beachside bars.
