Lake Como is situated in Lombardy in the far north of Italy, close to the border with Switzerland. The eighteenth century Villa Carlota in Tremezzo is set in classical Italian gardens with rhododendrons and azaleas, and has a museum dedicated to neoclassical art with works by prominent artists and sculptors including Canova, Appiani, and Hayez. The Villa d’Este at Cernobbio was built in 1568 and is now a famous luxury hotel attracting celebrities and tourists from all over the world.
