The medieval castle and fortress of Akershus Slott and Festning can offer you great concerts and theatrical performances as well as the more obvious events – the changing of the guard. The Norsk Folke museum is open air – An Old town of houses, post offices, banks, farms and Norway’s oldest building – The Gol Stav church. Here you can see people wearing tradition costumes and acting out traditional activities. There is also the re-make of an old 20th century town here. The Viking museum is also a great break from the norm, you can even see the old preserved ships!
Norway is not just a capital city, it even boasts its own ski resort. You can combine your cheap city break with a ski holiday. Only 20 minutes outside the city Trvvann Viterpark has 11 pistes, a half pipe and even Norway’s biggest Terrain park. For those really into the night time jaunts night skiing is available on Fridays.
