September 2009 - staying at SOL GALUA HOTEL
We had a lovely holiday at this hotel, even though it was end of season. The staff were excellent throughout, quietly and unobtrusively attentive. The room was excellent, with private balcony (almost all are the same) facing South with a great view of the beach, all the way around to the lighthouse.Breakfast was superb - quite probably the best breakfast service I've experienced in any hotel (we are regular travellers, particularly to the Netherlands and Scandinavia). We didn't actually eat in the hotel other than this, as the largest concentration of still open restaurants on the entire strip was 200yds from the hotel. The beach, to which there is private access, was excellent - it was cleaned twice in the week we were there - and had some great snorkelling opportunities right on the edge of the hotel, once the seas had calmed from a stormy beginning (which suited the surfers far more!).
The sun terrace, which overlooks the beach, was excellent, although I can imagine it's a bit restrictive in high season. There was a nice mix of nationalities in the hotel - mainly older couples and groups, as you'd expect given the time of year.
I'm not sure if all the rooms are made so that a double is really a twin with the beds pushed together but the chambermaid sorted this out for us (once we'd strapped the beds together by the legs to make the point!). If there are proper double rooms then chalk the incorrect provision up not to the hotel but to Fleetway and Opodo, neither of whom I will be using again due to this and other issues, e.g. the inability to accept hyphens in names on the booking system, which is going to lead to someone being denied boarding one day.
Many moons ago I spent some years working as a manager in four star hotels and I found this one to fit the bill perfectly.
