Customer reviews of Mahdia

November 2011 - staying at IBEROSTAR ROYAL ELMANSOUR

great location lovely holiday

June 2010 - staying at EL MOURADI CAP MAHDIA

The hotel was awesome. not really busy in the evening but if you can make your own fun then its great! theres not many english people there which I liked as i spoke to so many people from all over the world (even though a lot of people there couldnt speak great English they really tried to talk with you). The animation team were really entertaining and work really hard. I enjoyed being in Mardia because it didnt feel completely fake and touristic. The town was really nice and had just the right amount of hassle/bargaining for me as it did grow tiring and I think a bigger place would have meant more hassle. The sahara 2 day tour is well worth doing and great value for money if u dont mind spending time on a coach.

June 2010 - staying at EL MOURADI CAP MAHDIA

The hotel is more like a tired Tunisian Butlins! Very basic in facilities and cusine leaves a lot to be desired....sadly! Plus points are the beachfront location and the friendly staff. IU wouldn't recommend this hotel to a friend and would have booked in at a better hotel hotel had we booked for more than 6 full days stay. Bedrooms are clean, however beds are uncomfortable twins that we needed to push together. The price of all inclusive per day is only £40 as specified by the hotel,we then paid an extra £50 each to upgrade to a sea view room...not sure we really got what we paid the extra for. Overall a dissapointing an overpriced last minute 'deal'?!

April 2010 - staying at VINCCI RESORT NOUR PLC 5*

Vincci Nour Palace Resort is very nice. It is more of a 4* than a 5* however that is Tunisia for you. Complications set in on the return flight however Thomas Cook looked after us superbly in a resort near the airport and rearranged a flight when possible.

April 2010 - staying at VINCCI RESORT NOUR 5*

Lovely clean hotel with friendly staff. Food in the hotel overpriced. We were on a b&b basis which wasn't worth it as trying to buy dinner was very difficult and expensive so might as well be all inclusive. Very little to do in the evenings, apart from bowling, pool, table tennis and scrabble. The evening entertainment was awful. Table tennis always busy. Tennis during the day was fun, but only one of the three courts were decent and the rackets, balls poor quality, plus you have to pay for this. It was a nice beach but further away from hotel loads of rubbish around. It was ok for some sun and tanning but not the food, activities or culture. I probably wouldn't go back.

March 2010 - staying at VINCCI NOUR PALACE

The hotel is much favoured by German and Italian guests and Mahdia is a popular resort with Tunisians on holiday so we were one of only about 6 UK guests. Rooms large and clean with good bathrooms and plenty of hot water. Cleaning was meticulous. Hotel facilites were good with indoor pool as well as outdoor, massage, shops etc.
Food in restaurant was variable between 2 out of 5 and 4 out of 5 but OK if you pick and choose. In March outside the main restaurant it was hard to get service at all.
Price of drinks was horrendous, wine was 30TD about twice what we normally pay and two gin and tonics were 27TD suggest you drink pastsi at a pleasnt enough 3TD!
Staff pleasant and helpful although not all as good at English as visitors to Sousse and Monastir might expect.
Mahdia is still less developed as a tourist resort and much lass hassle than other places, beach is fabulous and great place for kids. Market day on Friday is mental.
Try and visit Slakta and of course El Jem

March 2010 - staying at VINCCI NOUR PALACE

The travel arrangements were excellent. We had no problems with any of the arrangements made by Fleetway Travel on our behalf.
The hotel was smart and extremely clean and the staff were courteous, professional and friendly. The food was excellent, both for choice and quality.
If you are looking to enjoy Tunisian culture and lifestyle, we think you will enjoy this resort and hotel however, we were only one of two couples in the hotel from the UK. This suited us but might not be for all.
Some of the facilities were not available as we visited early in the season and the weather had been unpredictable however, this was understandable and the services which were available were more than adequate. The temperatures during our stay in March were 20 - 23 degrees, with a light breeze
The entertainment was provided by a very committed team who worked hard to ensure everyone had a good time but weren't pushy if you chose not to join in.
Overall we really enjoyed this holiday which exceeded our expectations

February 2010 - staying at VINCCI NOUR PALACE

Flawlessly Perfect and Perfectly flawless. I can't fault it at all.. absolutely amazing!

November 2009 - staying at 5*EL MOURADI MAHDIA

Myself (42) and my wife (32) went to Tunisia for the first time as the new Exeter departure was convenient. We searched for a good hotel, and then looked for an operator (Fleetway) who went there.

The El Mouradi - Mahdia is, as you'd expect for 5*, more like a 3* to most peoples' standards, but it's a good one!

The rooms, as reported, were 'getting a bit tired' but were clean and comfortable, and well equipped. In fact, as it was end of season, a start was being made on refurbishment of some empty rooms.

Although it was off-season, enough all-inc. facilities were still available. The breakfast/lunch/dinner was amazingly varied and tasty, with all-sorts of everything. The clientelle was mainly German (sign of a good resort), with a smattering of English, Italian, etc. and also a lot of Tunisian families. The staff seemed well enough equipped linguistically to cope with all this, and were unstintingly helpful. Admittedly, a couple of Dinars for your waiter, etc. of an evening is a good idea, but its peanuts to us.

The beach was good, as was the care from the security and beach bar. The local beach sellers are only allowed to skirt the edge of the loungers, so hassle was minimal. Hotel has a nice indoor and outdoor pool, and a Hammam/Quad Tours, etc. are available for extra.

Apart from the All.Inc facilities, we went out and about. There is a free hotel bus shuttle to town, returning in the afternoon. The hotel is in the 'Zone Touristique', where there's always a Taxi hanging about the road for you. Across the way about 5 mins is the local rail station for the resort with approx hourly trains which will take you down to Mahdia town (1 dinar return), or the other way up to Monastir 40 mins or Sousse 1hr30 for 3-4 Dinar, (but gets very crowded often).

Mahdia town is delightful, quite small, worth a look around, though you will get 'looky-looky' hassle on the main shopping alley in the Medina. We also caught a 'Louage' (shared 'people-mover' taxi) to El-Jem (Roman Colloseum) and the city of Sfax ( non-touristy), but the Louage is fast and not for the faint hearted/claustrophobic. Cheap though! You have to ask the local where these go from, or ask Cheryl, the excellent Rep. when she visits the hotel. She has been living in downtown Mahdia for 14 years...and said, yes, it is safe to eat the salad and drink the water, unless you're particularly sensitive or unlucky!

Oh, and the weather was great for Nov. 21-26 deg. C.

Thanks Fleetway, and Michael who dealt with the booking.

October 2009 - staying at EM CAP MAHDIA

A great ALL INCLUSIVE holiday that we thoroughly enjoyed. Areas for improvement are:
1. Flys! Could you persuade the hotel owners to invest in some UV electric fly killers particularly for the restaurant area.
2. The 'Sunshine' Rep was charming but could have given us a better introductory meeting ideally with say a one A4 page of information. For example we were not aware that facilities included use of a Kayak and wind surfer. A simple map showing the location of the Zoo, Fortress etc would have been very useful. We wasted 1/2 a day of the 5 days holiday finding a shop where we could purchase a local map.
