The Turkish Riviera
is a holiday paradise with a lovely natural setting, boasting
sunshine for 300 days of the year. The coast is lined with decadent
beaches lapped by clear blue waters making it a beach lovers
paradise for families and couples alike, all within the surroundings
of beautiful pine forests, olive and citrus groves, as well
as palm, avocado and banana plantations.
One of the largest cities on the coast, Antalya's focal point
is its harbour with winding back streets that lead to the old
city. The main coarse sand beach offers watersports and there
are shops, restaurants and nightlife in abundance. Old mixes
with new, helping to make this resort popular with all types
of holidaymaker. About 12km to the east of Antalya is Lara Beach,
a popular stretch of sand.
Side (pronounced sea-day) is built on a headland with several
beaches to either side. It boasts bars, lokantas,watersports,
modern shops, clubs and discos alongside the relics of the past
- including two second century temples and an amphitheatre. These
ruins are close to the resort centre, with its bustling streets
where there are bargains to be found. Accommodation is situated
both in Side itself and along the coastline stretching from
the town in each direction.
Kemer combines the cosmopolitan atmosphere of its attractive
marina with the more traditional Turkish cafes and lokantas
that line the beach. There are two beaches: the public beach,
pebbly with lots of watersports and boat trips, and 'Moonlight
Beach', a mixture of sand and shingle.Wander around the many
shops, bars and restaurants, or stroll around the marina, where
you can sit back with a cool drink, admiring the yachts.
