Unfortunately we only spent one night at this establishment and could have stayed more. The township appeared very interesting. The room was modern with modern facilities. Bed was snuggly and comfy. Fabulous sun rise.

Cultural Tour & Robben Island visit

Starting with a tour of the city’s District 6, you’ll see what a wonderful mosaic of cultures the city is as you pass by three mosques and five churches. The tour then continues to the Cape Flats, which is the oldest official township in the city. You might hear some of the 11 different official languages spoken here, as the guide tells you about the daily life in these areas. You might also meet a local healer and see some of the local institutions that exist here. After this, the tour continues through Bonteheuwel, Nyanga, Crossroads and Khayelitscha. Along the way you’ll see the Gugulethu Seven Memorial and the Amy Biehl Memorial. In the early afternoon, you will board the Robben Island ferry, which sets sail to one of the most famous places in South African history. A rock in the Atlantic Ocean just north of Cape Town, this island homes the prison many of the country’s freedom fighters throughout history, including Nelson Mandela, were confined. The guided tour will end in front of his cell, in which he spent 18 out of his 27 years in imprisonment. The day concludes with a return ferry and subsequent transport to the hotel.

Winelands Day Tour

Paarl Wine Region

One of the Western Cape’s premier wine regions, Paarl is home to a number of well-respected wine producers, including KWV, Laborie, Nederburg, Fairview and Plaisir de Merle. The red wines, made in this region are largely from Shiraz, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon (often found in a Bordeaux blend) are rich and robust, with a great intensity of fruit. The white wines are fruit driven and tropical, usually made from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Paarl’s vineyards are found on the lower slopes of Paarl Rock, on the northern side of Simonsberg Mountain and in the valley of the Berg River.

Franschhoek Valley

About an hour’s drive from Cape Town lies Franschhoek Valley, famous for its beautiful mountains, excellent wines and unforgettable restaurants. Here breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world class cuisine and the finest wines all combine to create lasting memories. Spectacular vineyards cover mountain slopes where the Huguenots settled around 300 years ago; they brought with them their age-old French wine and food culture. This is a valley rich in history centered around a picturesque village of friendly, welcoming people. The main street is lined with coffee shops, galleries and restaurants. Franschhoek Valley is famous for Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Gris (Grigio) and Viognier. If you’re partial to red, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Pinotage and Sangiovese are widely available

Stellenbosch

A blend of historical architecture, epicurean delights and oak-lined avenues, Stellenbosch is a picturesque town surrounded by mountains and vineyards. A walking tour of the town centre allows visitors to take in its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture, as well as the many enticing art galleries, craft shops, clothing boutiques and gift stores, while foodies may prefer indulging in mouth-watering cuisine and fine wines in one of the chic restaurants or buzzing bistros. Stellenbosch is also the ideal base from which to explore the renowned local wine route, boasting a high proportion of the country’s leading wine estates. Cabernet Sauvignon is the region’s most widely planted grape variety, and is often combined with Merlot to create Bordeaux Blend wines. Stellenbosch is also notable for being the birthplace of Pinotage (a crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut) in 1924.

Garden Route Tour

Experience the beautiful flora and fauna on a three night excursion, where breakfast and accommodation are provided.

Day 1 - Protea Hotel Riempie Estate, Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn is famous for its ostriches and the magnificent Cango Caves. Located along the famous Route 62, which takes motorists past one awe-inspiring sight after another, Oudtshoorn is known as the Ostrich Capital of the World, as these huge birds are almost as common as people in this charming town. In addition to these magnificent birds and the wonderful feathers and meat they provide, the Oudtshoorn area also boasts the spectacular Cango Caves; the largest show cave system in Africa, permeated with sparkling stalactites and stalagmites and captivating rock formations.

Day 2 - Protea Hotel Knysna Quays, Knysna

Nestled between the imposing Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, and surrounded by world-renowned forests, Knysna offers a wealth of activities for visitors. The beautiful lagoon and more than eight beaches provide opportunities to partake in numerous water sports, walk on soft sand and take ferry rides, while nearby markets offer organic goods, delicious food, indigenous plants and a great social atmosphere. Explore the mountains, valleys, lakes, forests and streams, and head out on the bird-watching route where migratory and exotic birds can be spotted. The area is also famous for its golf courses, the Knysna Heads and its delicious oysters.

Day 3 - Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay has rapidly grown from its days as a little fishing village and holiday resort. The big bay has long sandy beaches and the old town has plenty of historic and recreational attractions, including the Diaz Museum, the Post Tree and the Mossel Bay Golf Course. The course boasts views of the sea from every tee and the chance to whale watch as you line up your next shot.

Day 4 - Departure

Start the day with a visit to the Botlierskop Private Game reserve where breakfast is served before departing on a game drive. Experience close encounters with Rhinoceros, Lion, Buffalo, and Giraffe, rare Black Impala and many other species on an exhilarating three-hour guided game drive in an open vehicle over the 3000 hectare reserve. From the reserve, travel via rolling hills to Swellendam. Lunch today is at a restaurant in Swellendam.

South Africa

A highly diverse country with eleven official languages and three different capitals, South Africa is a vast nation that offers a distinctive mix of cultures and influences. A great illustration of this rich fabric is the city of Cape Town –a lively metropolis surrounded by the sea, mountains, nature parks and vineyards. Greet the penguins at Boulder’s Beach, scale Table Mountain, and take a trip to the former prison of Robben Island – where guided tours will talk you through previous political prisoners. Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison on Robben Island and visitors can still see the small cell in which he was held along with the rock pile that he started during his imprisonment. For lesser known sights in the city, see the work of local South African artists at the World Art Gallery and experience the buzz of the Bay Harbour Market. Go on wine tours outside of the city around Stellenbosch – here you can sample world-famous offerings as well as taking in breathtaking scenery. Natural havens like Knysna and Mossel Bay offer peace and relaxation, while also being close to unique pastimes like ostrich and crocodile farms, caves, and nature reserves.
