Itinerary

Day 1 – Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you’ll be met by your Akorn Airport Representative and introduced to your guide. You will then go on the four-hour drive to Udawalawe, have dinner and stay at the Grand Udawalawe hotel.

Day 2 – After breakfast, you will go on an included excursion to the Udawalawe National Park and the Elephant Transit Home, which is a sanctuary dedicated to rehabilitating the great animals and looking after orphaned calves. In the evening you can go on a nature walk around the Udawalawe Reservoir Dam and witness many species of birds and buffalo, while you can watch on as the local people interact with the elephants in the area.

Day 3 – The day begins with an early morning game drive through Udawalawe National Park, complete with a packed breakfast. Afterwards, you will go on an afternoon drive and spot the natural habitats for many animals including the Sri Lankan leopard. In the evening, you will visit the jungle shrine of Kataragama Kovil before moving onto Tissamaharama and your stay in the Chandrika Hotel.

Day 4 – The afternoon game drive through Yala National Park in the afternoon is a dream destination for all wildlife enthusiasts. Here you can see leopard cubs seeking refuge in a tree, or an adult leopard quenching its thirst at a water hole. The park boasts the highest concentration of leopards in the world.

Day 5 – After breakfast, you will proceed to Mirissa via Handungoda and visit the Virgin Tea plantation Handungoda. Handungoda produces Virgin White Tea, the only tea untouched by hand. This tea possesses over 10% antioxidants and is considered the purest tea in the world. After this you will drive to the Galle Dutch Fort, a rare historical jewel protected by dark, thick stone walls perched right on the coast. You will then drive to Wadduwa and check in to the Citrus Waskaduwa Hotel, where you can enjoy dinner.

Day 6 & 7 – Enjoy the all-inclusive Citrus Waskaduwa hotel and relax on the beach as you recover from an intense couple of days. The hotel has a number of pools and wellness facilities to make the most of relaxation time.

Day 8 – Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before travelling to Wadduwa airport for your flight home.

Sri Lanka

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, Sri Lanka is a rare Asian gem sparkling in the tropical sun. Although often thought of in the same breath as India, the island country is a separate state and only shares proximity with its neighbour – as well as a fierce cricket rivalry. A unique region of serene beaches, vast tea plantations, exotic animals and stunning natural sights, Sri Lanka is a great place to visit for travelling, spotting wildlife and surfing. The stretches of sand in Sri Lanka are particularly picturesque, visitors needing to relax ocean-side should visit one of the equally gorgeous Hikkaduwa, Negombo or Unawatuna beaches.

Sri Lanka is home to a plethora of places to visit. From the ancient Buddhist shrines and royal palaces of Kataragama and Sigiriya, to the Dutch colonial ramparts of Galle Fort, as well as the lush tea plantations and magnificent national parks. Udawalawe National Park is home to herds of elephants pacing through sunburnt greenery and guided tours will take you up close to these majestic endangered creatures.
