Day 1 (Airport – Sigiriya) – You’ll be met at the airport and introduced to your English-speaking tour manager, before being transported to Sigiriya Village Hotel (around a 4-hour drive).
Day 2 (Sigiriya) – After breakfast, you’ll visit the local village and get a feel for the place before embarking on a climb to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. An enormous rock boulder rising 200 metres above the jungle, it’s an unforgettable sight. On the way up, you’ll take time to admire Sigiri graffiti, the Sigiriya frescoes, before wandering through the ruins and taking in the 360 degree panoramic views from the summit.*
Day 3 (Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya) – After breakfast, you’ll travel to Polonnaruwa to visit several archaeological monuments. Starting at the iconic, manmade reservoir Parakrama Samudra, you’ll be able to spot four colossal Buddha statues at the Rock Temple. Moving on, you’ll wander through palace ruins and intricate carvings before arriving back at the hotel in the evening. Should you wish to explore the site by bike, this can be arranged by your guide.
Day 4 (Sigiriya) – You’ll head on a guided bird and butterfly walk through Sigiriya Village Garden in the morning. Before having a leisure day to yourself, making the most of the leisure facilities at the hotel or joining an optional excursion (extra fee).
Optional excursions: You can choose to go on an Elephant Back Safari or a Game Drive through Minneriya National Park from £35 per person.
Day 5 (Sigiriya – Anuradhapura – Sigiriya) – After breakfast, you’ll travel to Anuradhapura, another UNESCO ancient city heavily influenced by Buddhism. Here, you’ll take in temples, the mighty Jethawanarama, receive a blessing near the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, before returning to the hotel in the evening.
Day 6 (Sigiriya – Kandy – Peradeniya – Marawila) – You’ll check-out of the Sigiriya Village Hotel after breakfast and travel to Kandy. Here, you’ll embark on a city tour of places like the Sacred Temple of the Tooth, Kandy Lake, the scenic Victoria Golf Club, before moving onto Peradeniya and taking in the Royal Botanical Gardens. After this, you’ll continue onto Marawila and check-in to Club Palm Bay.
Day 7 (Marawila) – A well-earned day of leisure is yours at the Club Palm Bay.
Day 8 (Marawila – Wilpattu – Marawila) – An early morning departure will take you on a drive to Wilpattu National Park with a packed breakfast and lunch. One of the largest national parks in the country, you’ll see lots of small lakes, dense forests, and if you’re fortunate, spot some sloth bears feasting on berries. In addition, to owls, eagles, storks and a host of other exotic birds, you may even spot leopards and crocodiles too if lady luck is on your side. You’ll return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 9 (Marawila) – After breakfast, you’ll visit a local temple and then take in a local Batik factory, before learning the process of this traditional cloth-dying. With the process down, you’ll then be guided as you begin work on your own batik – creating a one-in-a-kind souvenir.
Day 10 (Marawila – Colombo – Marawila) – Leaving after breakfast, you’ll travel to the capital, Colombo, and embark on a tour of the old town with resident and photographer, Mark Forbes. Moving through the streets, you’ll take in the Old Dutch Hospital, Colombo Fort, and Pettah Bazaar, with intermittent stops to take in the best parts like Ceylon tea and some great local cuisine. You’ll then return to the hotel for the evening.
Day 11 (Departure) – After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
