Detailed Itinerary

This itinerary is subject to variation depending on your arrival day. The below itinerary is from Sunday to Sunday, but those arriving on Monday or Tuesday will receive a revised timeline. For example, Monday tours visit the Amman Desert Castles in place of visits to Pella and Um Qais, while Tuesday tours have the Desert Castles visit in place of visiting Jerash and the Dead Sea. For full Monday and Tuesday itineraries, please ask an agent when you call to book.

Sun/Day 1: Q.AIA Airport – Amman Arrival in Jordan and subsequent transfer to Amman, where you will be checked into your hotel.

Mon/Day 2: Amman – Pella – Um Qais - Amman After breakfast, you’ll be heading out to the first destination of the tour. A two-hour drive north from the hotel will take you to the ancient site of Pella. A settlement since 4,000 BC, you’ll be able to see remains and ruins of the numerous empires that have ruled the region. From Bronze Age fortifications and Roman ruins to Byzantine churches and early Islamic houses, this is a live canvas of bygone millennia. Before returning to Amman, the tour makes a stop in the town of Umm Qais. Perched on a hilltop overlooking the Sea of Galilee, this town (once known as Gadara) not only features numerous ancient ruins and sights, it is also mentioned in the Bible.

Tue/Day 3: Amman – Jerash – Dead Sea - Amman Today, the tour heads to the city of Jerash, just north of Amman. The largest site of Roman ruins and buildings outside of Italy, this place has a plethora of stories to tell. A thriving city until the Middle Ages, it suffered through a number of earthquakes and wars which left it buried by desert sand for centuries. The still ongoing excavation of the site has revealed one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture and urban layout. Next on the tour is the world-famous Dead Sea. The lowest elevation on Earth, this is a unique and breathtaking place to behold. The high concentration of salt and minerals in the water is meant to have a soothing effect on a number of ailments.

Wed/Day 4: Amman – Madaba - Mount Nebo – Kerak – Petra Travelling along the 2,000 year-old Kings Highway, today’s excursion will include some of the ancient sites and cities that abound along this ancient route. The first stop is Madaba. Mentioned in the Old Testament numerous times, the city is today most famous for its stunning collection of early Medieval mosaics. The tour continues to the alleged burial site of Moses, Mount Nebo. At the top of it, you find stunning views of both Jordan and Israel. Driving further south, the next stop is the town of Kerak, where you’ll be able to visit the old Crusader castle, before continuing on to the final destination of today: Petra.

Thu/Day 5: Full day visit of Petra A UNESCO Heritage and the indisputable main attraction in Jordan, the ancient city of Petra is a truly unique experience, and today you’ll have every opportunity to experience it for yourself. Carved out of the rocks this red city is so famous that it has even appeared in several Hollywood films (most notably Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). Enter this spectacular site through the mile-long narrow pathway that time has carved out of the giant rocks, known as the Siq. The iconic Al-Khazneh temple rises majestically in front of you as you emerge from the pathway and this is only the beginning of the magnificent complex that is Petra. With a professional guide, you’ll be taken through the main sights of this city that time forgot, before returning to the hotel.

Fri/Day 6: Petra – Little Petra, ‘Al-Beidha’ – Wadi Rum – Amman Just north of the Petra (and only 10 minutes from the hotel) sits the small gem of Al Beidha. Also known as Little Petra, the small rock settlement does indeed appear like a smaller –but equally fascinating, sibling to the UNESCO site. After exploring the magnificent Al Beidha, the tour continues to the Wadi Rum Desert. Take in this stunning, yet barren landscape on a jeep ride and learn about the local Bedouin tribes that have called this their home for thousands of years. The area was also where the famous T.E. Lawrence was based during the First World War, as well as the setting for the later film about him, Lawrence of Arabia. After this you will be taken to a traditional Bedoiun Camp for an overnight experience in the desert. Dinner is included tonight.

Sat/Day 7: Amman free day Enjoy a day at your leisure in Jordan’s capital. With over 3,000 years of history, the city has plenty of stories to tell and sights to be seen. The ancient citadel rises above the rest of Amman in the very centre, and here, not only can you catch a glimpse of centuries and empires past, you’ll also have excellent views of the rest of the city. Visit the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre next to the citadel and then head to the Jordan Museum where you can immerse yourself in the history and culture of this vibrant country, or spend a few hours shopping in the popular Wakalat Street. These are just a few of the options that lay ahead of you on your last full day in Jordan.

Sun/Day 8: Departure through Q.AI Airport After breakfast, you’ll be taken to the Q.Al Airport.

Jordan

An undiscovered gem of the Middle-East, a holiday to Jordan combines ancient sites, wonderful hospitality, and a genuine wonder of the world in Petra. A popular choice as it allows visitors to explore both the desert and unforgettable landmarks, there’s really nowhere else quite like Jordan. Top of everyone’s list is a visit to the ancient site of Petra - this wondrous city has been cast into the sandstone escarpments, giving it a look like no other settlement in the world. The whole area is an unforgettable sight to behold, but the defining landmarks within Petra are the Siq and the Treasury. Those looking to explore the desert will find the most popular spot is Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon. This 60-kilometre valley in southern Jordan is the largest one in the country. These red-tinged dunes are gloriously vast, continuing as far as the eye can see – providing a sight you’ll never forget. There are even canyons in certain places flowing with seasonal water, while there are palm trees and an explosion of flowers here in the springtime.

The capital city of Amman offers a unique mixture of old and new, while it’s exceedingly close to UNESCO sites like the aforementioned Petra, its city centre is relatively modern. A vibrant blend of restaurants, museums, and shops give you lots to do, while the desert and Dead Sea are also close enough to explore. Jerash is another modern Jordanian town with quaint streets and beautiful market gardens, while its impressive ancient city has a stunning entry point through Hadrian’s Arch. Contrasting these two modern destinations is the ancient Crusader stronghold of Kerak. Giant walls adorn the old city and there is so much to see within them – with one of the largest towers found in the whole country.
