Las Vegas

A glittering, neon-lit oasis set in the vast desert landscape of Nevada, Las Vegas is a splendour of casinos, a decadence of nightclubs and indeed a pure burst of fun. The City of Sin, however, offers much more than just the lights of the Las Vegas Strip and flocks of Elvis impersonators, and next to the alluring life of the main sights, you’ll discover a city of warmth, culture and never-ending ambition.

When the state of Nevada legalised gambling in 1931, few people could probably imagine that the small city of Las Vegas would blossom into a gigantic desert rose of light, glass and grandiose architecture. Forged through sheer audacity and confidence the city today welcomes millions of visitors, seeking the thrill of the casinos and the delights that abound the city’s centre. Marvel at the outrageously bold replicas of the Eiffel Tower, the Sphinx, the canals of Venice and even the New York skyline, try your luck at the slot-machines and roulette tables, or enjoy the shows that world-class stars offer at the various hotels. In Las Vegas, if it’s fun, entertaining and draped in a layer of stardust, you’re bound to find it here. Along the Las Vegas Boulevard, you’ll see all the grand hotels and casinos, where professional gamblers and tourists alike congregate around the revels of the games and tables. Take in the breathtaking water displays at Bellagio Fountains, go on a gondola-ride at The Venetian, and take in the stunning views from the gigantic High Roller Ferris wheel or from the top of the Stratosphere Tower. If everything is bigger in America, Las Vegas is the city that really emphasises this.  In fact, even the more off-beat sights away from The Strip are still mind-bogglingly big and magnificent. Near Las Vegas, you can visit the Hoover Dam, which is one of the greatest engineering feats ever, or head to some of the quirkier places like the Neon Museum just north of the city, where giant, disused neon signs are left in the desert sand and can be explored up close. Alternatively, you can also discover the Atomic Testing Museum, which sheds light on the history of the Nevada Desert as a test site where hundreds of nuclear bombs have been detonated. Back in city, you can emerge yourself in the shadier past of Las Vegas, at the Mob Museum, before once again entering the boulevards bathed in light and the cacophonic casinos. Regardless of what you see and do in Las Vegas, you are guaranteed to come away with a fortune of – if nothing else, experiences and memories.
