Hello from sunny Rome!
I warn you now, reading this is highly likely to make you jealous so I apologise in advance!
From arriving at the hotel, to writing this postcard as I indulge in a cocktail at the Rooftop Sky Stars Bar, Rome has been incredible. I narcissistically chose my namesake cocktail, the ‘Sophie toffee…EARTH’. The cute personalised menu tells me it has been created by Carlo, and what a great job he’s done – it’s a delicious combination of rum, cranberry, pineapple juice, peach tree, Malibu and even white chocolate foam! The stars are twinkling above St Peter’s Basilica, dramatically lit in the distance, and the thought of going home tomorrow makes me want to order another drink (or three) so I can sit out here in the balmy evening for as long as possible.
After initially checking in at the A. Roma Lifestyle Hotel, the outdoor swimming pool was the first feature to tempt me. I popped on my swimming cossie and skedaddled down to the sunbeds. Quirky statues are dotted around the hotel grounds – I was sunbathing next to a brass alligator, and opposite me was a hippo! Encased by the lush greenery of the surrounding gardens, the elegant pool provided a calm oasis, after navigating the journey from London to get to it!
My freckly English skin was soon pink from the intense Italian sun, despite a generous slathering of sun cream, so I took respite in the Wellness Spa. There is an inside pool too! Majestic marble walls, exotic plants, and imaginative sculptures with quirky pink lighting made me feel like I was in a sophisticated art installation. Developing a taste for the finer things in life, I was keen to discover the other luxurious Spa offerings. There were all the classic spa facilities and some I didn’t even know existed: steam baths, Finnish saunas, an impluvian, Roman saline fountain, cold fog showers, massage and treatment rooms, a fitness centre and posarium! Now I know A.Roma is only a short trip to the centre of Rome, with many fascinating historical and cultural sites to see, but I would have been quite happy exploring the hotel alone for the week!
After all that pampering and tanning, I had worked up quite an appetite! Dinner was to be served in the Sapori dal Mondo restaurant, where I was met with the hustle and bustle of working chefs, the smell of fresh food and spices, and snazzy multi-coloured lighting. Unashamedly I piled my plate high with classic Italian cuisine, tasters of the American BBQ dishes and a side serving of noodles – there is everything you could want! After overindulging, it was definitely time for a lie down.
Collapsing onto the crisp, white sheets of my double bed, I admired my room and felt very lucky. Modern and stylish, there was everything I could need, and even a cheeky square window into the bathroom so I could admire the sleek shower from my bed! An interesting touch!
The next day was for exploring Rome! After a short walk I popped on a tram and was at the Piazza Venezia in 20 minutes! Throughout the rest of the holiday I set about ticking the sights of the Italian capital off my list: the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Borghese Gallery, Vatican Museum and more. I made sure to have regular pit stops for creamy gelato and enormous pizza slices – I was in Italy after all! When my legs were tired from wandering the city and the sun was settling down for the night, I happily returned to A Roma Lifestyle Hotel, knowing my comfy bed was waiting.
You really must visit Rome, and when you do, the A Roma is a clear choice of hotel – you would love it!More From the Same Author
