Today we’re going to take a closer look at one of our most exciting new holidays of the past few months – an African adventure to both Zimbabwe and Botswana. We’ll introduce both destinations you’ll visit on this majestic trip, while giving you some more background information on the wonderful sights you’ll be seeing.

The first port-of-call on this holiday is Zimbabwe, where you’ll spend four nights and visit the world’s largest waterfalls – the UNESCO-listed Victoria Falls.

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Found on the southern bank of the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls is a Zimbabwean town found very close to the large waterfalls of the same name. Unsurprisingly, as the world’s-largest waterfalls, the Victoria Falls are the main draw to a stay here and they have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. The falls’ native name is Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning ‘The Smoke that Thunders’, and it offers incredible vistas from all around, as well as rafting for those adrenalin junkies visiting.

If views are what you’re after, one of the most dramatic spots in the National Park is found at Cataract View. This incredible vista often provides a rainbow prism effect with its 180-degree angle. Those feeling brave can take a different track towards Danger Point – where an unfenced 100-metre drop will be more than enough to get the blood pumping. This point provides views of the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Outside of the National Park, a great way to get a taste for Victoria Falls is by doing that quite literally. Boma is a buffet restaurant set underneath a huge thatched roof and serves up local fare such as BBQ warthog, guinea fowl stew, and spit roasts. The restaurant also puts on traditional dance shows, drumming performances, and you can even have your fortune read by a witch doctor (please note Fleetway are not responsible for any ill-fated fortunes that are revealed).

If you’re looking for souvenirs, be sure to try out Elephant’s Walk Village – which offers the best local craftwork in the shape of some amazing gifts and sculptures. Jafuta Heritage Centre is the area’s local museum dedicated to the indigenous groups of the area, detailing the country’s wonderful history.

After leaving Zimbabwe, you’ll be taken to the incredible Kasane in Botswana, where you’ll spend three nights on a full-board basis with included river cruise and a game drive.

Kasane, Botswana

A gorgeous town in unspoiled Botswana, Kasane represents the striking natural beauty found in many African countries, largely due to the fact of its location – a meeting point of four different countries in Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. With direct access to the two major rivers of the Zambezi and the Chobe, it’s certainly a stunning place to visit. And speaking of those stunning rivers, your package includes a wonderful cruise down the Chobe River.

An alternative way to experience the expansive national park, a cruise down the Chobe presents a wonderful viewpoint to the copious amounts of wildlife found here. Many animals flock to the river for water, meaning they literally come to you – leaving you with the easy task of setting up the best angles for photos.

The Chobe National Park offers guests a great opportunity to tick off a game drive off their bucket lists, seeing such animals as lions, elephants, raptors, a wide array of bird species, and hippos. Alongside this thrilling introduction to African wildlife, the Chobe National Park offers bespoke photographic tours where you’ll be taken on a whirlwind exploration of the best spots to capture these magnificent beasts. Simply ask your guide when you’re there and they’ll give you all the information you’ll need, as well as enlightening you on even more extras you can add to your trip.
